Porriño, July 29, 2025 – The biopharmaceutical group ZENDAL has announced the composition of the jury for the sixth edition of the International Zendal Awards, which once again includes two categories: Human Health and Animal Health. The scientific committee is made up of nationally and internationally renowned professionals from both fields, with distinguished careers in research, healthcare, biotechnology, public health, and business management.
The Zendal Awards recognize excellence in research and innovation in the field of health, with a clear focus on prevention, vaccines, and the One Health concept. In this sixth edition, the financial award amounts to €40,000 for the Human Health category and €25,000 for the Animal Health category.
In the field of Animal Health, the jury evaluating the submitted entries is composed of: Juan José Badiola Díez, Professor of Animal Health and Director of the Center for Encephalopathies and Emerging Transmissible Diseases at the University of Zaragoza; María Jaureguízar Redondo, Managing Director of Vet+i Foundation – Spanish Technological Platform for Animal Health; Juan Carlos Castillejo, senior advisor specialized in Animal Health; Francisco A. Rojo Vázquez, Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of León and Treasurer of the Veterinary Sciences Academy of Castilla y León; and representing Zendal, its CEO Andrés Fernández Álvarez-Santullano.
The jury for the Human Health category will consist of: Carlos Martín Montañés, Professor of Microbiology, Preventive Medicine, and Public Health at the University of Zaragoza; Miguel Ángel Llamas, PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and CEO of Empireo, a company specialized in molecular diagnostics; María Vallet-Regí, researcher, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Head of the Department of Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Complutense University of Madrid; Pilar Domingo-Calap, professor and group leader at the Institute of Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio, University of Valencia–CSIC), and Scientific Director of the spin-off Evolving Therapeutics SL; Mª Eugenia Puentes Colorado, member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Galicia; and from Zendal, its CEO Andrés Fernández Álvarez-Santullano.
International Zendal Awards These annual awards, organized by the biopharmaceutical group, were established in 2019 with the goal of promoting, showcasing, and recognizing new research projects in the field of human and animal health.
Year after year, the number of submissions and projects has steadily increased, reflecting the scientific excellence of various research teams at both national and international levels.
The awards are open to both public and private institutions and research teams. In the selection process, special consideration will be given to projects that have made significant contributions to research, biotechnology, and health through innovative and transformative solutions. Furthermore, to ensure objective evaluation, aspects such as project feasibility, applicability, and impact on improving quality of life and societal well-being will be taken into account.
